How I Met Your Mother

The 2013–14 season is the show’s ninth and final season.The series follows the main character, Ted Mosby, and his group of friends in Manhattan. As a framing device, Ted, in the year 2030, recounts to his son and daughter the events that led him to meeting their mother.The character Ted Mosby is played by Josh Radnor (Six Feet Under) and voiced by Bob Saget (Full House, Raising Dad, Entourage).

The show was created by Craig Thomas (The Goodwin Games) and Carter Bays, who also serve as the show’s executive producers and frequent writers. The series was loosely inspired by their friendship when they both lived in New York City. The series revolves around Ted Mosby narrating the story of how he met his wife (Cristin Milioti, A to Z) to his children. While living in New York City and working as an architect, the narrative deals with his best friends, including the long-lasting couple Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel, Freaks and Geeks) and Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan, Buffy the Vampire Slayer); the eccentric, womanizer-playboy Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris, Doogie Howser, M.D.); and news anchor Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders, The L World, Veritas: the Quest). The series explores many storylines, including a love triangle between Robin, Ted, and Barney; Marshall and Lily’s relationship; as well as the careers of the characters.

Known for its unique structure and eccentric humor, How I Met Your Mother has received positive reviews throughout most of its run and has gained a cult following over the years. The show has been nominated for 28 Emmy Awards, winning nine. In 2010, Alyson Hannigan won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite TV Comedy Actress. In 2012, seven years after its premiere, the series won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Network TV Comedy, and Neil Patrick Harris won the award for Favorite TV Comedy Actor.

The ninth and final season began airing on September 23, 2013, and concluded on March 31, 2014 in a highly controversial finale episode, as regarded by many critics and fans.
