Big School

the series philosopher big school wikiBig School is a BBC situation comedy starring David Walliams (Little Britain), Catherine Tate (The Office), Steve Speirs (Stella), Frances de la Tour (Rising Damp, Vicious) and Philip Glenister (Life on Mars). It is set in a secondary school and follows the comedic relationships of the teachers. The first series began airing on BBC One on 16 August 2013.

The series follows Keith Church (David Walliams), a socially inept chemistry teacher at the fictional Greybridge Secondary School, near Watford North London, who falls for new French teacher Sarah Postern (Catherine Tate), who believes herself to be an inspirational teacher, in tune with youth culture and a beautiful woman. However she is also getting attention from uncouth and cocky sports teacher Trevor Gunn (Philip Glenister).

Other characters include:

  • Ms Baron (Frances de la Tour), the headteacher, who humiliates her staff and professes high standards for the school whilst indulging a predilection for smoking and drinking confiscated alcohol in her office.
  • Mr Barber (Steve Speirs), a depressed geography teacher
  • Mr Martin (Daniel Rigby, Black Mirror), a music teacher whose musical knowledge is lacking and who wants to be a singer-songwriter
  • Mrs Klebb (Joanna Scanlan, Little Britain), a nosy, interfering drama teacher
  • Mr Hubble (James Greene, Holby City), an elderly and confused science teacher.[4]
  • Pat (Julie T. Wallace, Mr. Wymi, Last of the Summer Wine), a laboratory not good-looking assistant who silently assists Mr Church and shows her desire for him through her body language and expressions.

The pupils at the school are portrayed as being mainly interested in social networking, texting and partying and as being bored by the attempts of Mr Church and Miss Postern to engage with them. The most prominent of them is a streetwise pupil called Manyou, played by Joivan Wade, who is asked for advice on how to succeed with women by Mr Church.
